Fiber and Light
illumination with handmade paper
Gregory made his first sheet of paper in 1984, at the College of Art and Design in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In those early days of the hand papermaking rennaissnace, when almost everyone who engaged the medium was self taught, he began his investigations with paper as an art form itself rather than in its more traditional role as a substrate for other media.
He was a managing partner of The Artworks for many years, a successful art cooperative on Orcas Island, Washington before moving to Maui, Hawaii to continue his explorations employing the native fibers found there. While on Maui he designed and built new proprietary equipment for making his paper that would transform what was possible in hand papermaking and introduce new design possibilites for his work.
After moving to Northern California in 2002, he eventually settled in the Napa Valley, where he established his current paper making and production facility. It is here where he continues to explore the possibiites of paper as artistic expression.
