SHARDS TABLE LAMP has a watermarked handmade paper shade and a subtle lavender background color that shifts into a soft, warm gray when illuminated. Inspiration came from walking a dry stream bed at sunset in the Napa Valley and witnessing the beauty of hardened clay, cracked into shards of intriguing shape and their interesting relationships. One can sense the dimensionality of the watermark shards as the darker surrounding background subtly recedes.

Is an exploration of ritual, movement,and surrender in the presence of the numinous. The watermark elements work to express the rhythmic energy of tribal group dynamics. The plant fibers themselves, as primary ingredients, further enhance the overall feel of subtle presence and process. TOTEM expresses the primal need for surrender to the present moment.
